NEW TEAM
AT THE GUILDHALL |
|
|
|
Its all change at the
Guildhall. Vanessa Oliveri (pictured left) has now taken over the
reins as Town Clerk and is already well in control of things. Vanessa has
been Deputy for several years and has been well-coached by Michael
Fletcher - who is still available to dispense his wisdom on particularly
tricky matters! Sarah Brown (right) has just joined as
Vanessa's secretary and is still busy getting the hang of things. Sarah
worked until recently as a PA in a hectic office in Witney and says she is
so pleased that she no longer has that journey to cope with every day.
Sarah is enjoying the new job and loves the working environment. Vanessa
and Sarah are both so delightfully welcoming - they'll probably soon be
run off their feet. |

History of the Town Hall
|
Chipping
Norton town councillors set up an appeal in the 1890s to raise money for a
chain to mark Queen Victoria's Jubilee. Among the
people approached was town councillor and MP Albert Brassey, who lived at
Heythrop Park, near Enstone. He generously told
the town council to order what they would like as a chain and he would meet
the full cost. The elaborate chain of office was
supplied by Chipping Norton jeweller Simms and made by the Goldsmiths
Company at 112 Regent Street, London. The money
already raised through the appeal was used to buy a set of fur-trimmed
mayoral robes, which are still used at the annual mayor-making in the town
hall and other civic events.
