TOWN COUNCIL ELECTIONS 2007

ROB EVANS

Dear Electors,

Since coming here in 1973, I have played an active role in the community – firstly as teacher and now governor at Topschool; town  councillor since 1983;  mayor 1995-6 and County Councillor 1997-2005; I have also been involved  in many  voluntary organisations which currently include Chair of ACE Centre Trustees, The Theatre Trust, Youth Centre Management Committee and the Town Partnership.

Chipping Norton needs new jobs and businesses with an extension of its public services to balance the increase in housing.   I am one of a number of community representatives on the Healthcare Users’ Group [HUG], working together for a modern hospital and care home on the designated new Rockhill site. We want to improve on the current provision at our community hospital and Castle View home and keep our nurses in the NHS.  We must insist on good bus links around the town to make this new health facility accessible to everyone.   We need better youth facilities, and I have helped form a new Youth Forum to give young people a say in their town.

We need closer collaboration with the District and County Council and others to reduce the polluting lorries that still endanger people’s quality of life in the town centre. We must also promote the many attractions of this ‘working Cotswold town’ to encourage more tourism, businesses and new residents.

I love living here, enjoying the community spirit, theatre, restaurants, shops and countryside which bring people to Chipping Norton
