TOWN COUNCIL ELECTIONS 2007

CHRIS BUTTERWORTH

Dear Elector,

I am standing for election as a Conservative Town Councillor in the forthcoming Local elections.

Although a relative newcomer to Chippy, my branch of the Butterworth family is returning to its roots as my great-great-grandfather came south from Yorkshire in1852 and became the Manager of the Bliss Mills as well as the first President of the Chipping Norton Co-operative society in 1866!

I am a retired schoolmaster, aged 62, who taught Physics at Radley College, a boy’s Independent School, near Abingdon, for 36 years.  I was a Housemaster for 16 years and Second Master for 15 years. On retiring in 2004 my wife Sue and I moved to Chippy where we are much enjoying the friendly atmosphere and the bustle of a lively market town.  Sue is an Occupational Therapist who manages Dialability, a charity based at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford.  We have three children; Edward, a Major in the Army Air Corps, Hannah a medical Doctor in Exeter and Victoria a Town planning consultant.

I was a member of Radley Village Parish Council for 12 years and the L.E.A. governor for the Village C of E Primary School for 11 years.

Regarding local issues I would be interested in helping to tackle are the problems of anti-social behaviour, drug taking, vandalism and other crime.

I have served on two advisory consultative committees for the Vale of the White Horse.  These were involved with Crime and Disorder (Drug and alcohol abuse) and Road Safety

Please support me with your vote on Thursday May3 rd

Chris Butterworth
