TOWN COUNCIL ELECTIONS 2003

  MARTIN JARRATT

Having been a member of the Town Council for the last four years, I am keen to stand for re-election as an Independent candidate. I moved to Churchill with my wife June and two sons in I978, where I was on the Parish Council. In I985 we then came to live in Chipping Norton. Apart from the Town Council, I am currently a governor of Penhurst School, Treasurer of the Nortonians Amateur Dramatic Society and a member of the Rotary Club. When I was planning and organising the planting of the William Fowler Memorial Wood, my knowledge and experience gained from my position as Estate and Woodland Manager at Bruern was most useful. It is my hope that this woodland will be enjoyed by generations to come. Trees in and around Chipping Norton need to he managed and replaced where necessary. When approaching the town its avenues of trees are a welcoming sight. As Chairman of the Cemetery Committee, I have led a dedicated group of councillors, who are concerned to maintain and improve the cemetery environment. Finding an alternative route for the heavy traffic through the town is an issue of great importance to all of us, along with parking problems and contentious planning applications. If elected, I will work hard to fight issues on your behalf and work to retain the special qualities of our town.
