TOWN COUNCIL ELECTIONS 2003 |
DON DAVIDSON
Teacher at Chipping Norton School for 25 years - from 1974 to 1999.
Currently working for the County Council Education Department - Premises
Group. Trade union and Health & Safety representative for the National
Association of Schoolmasters, Union of Women Teachers (NASUWT). Currently
branch President for West Oxfordshire Association and Oxfordshire County
Vice President.
Resident in Chipping Norton since 1977 Member of Chipping Norton Community
Education Committee. Member of Chipping Norton Youth Club Management
Committee. Elected to Chipping Norton Town Council in 1991. Served as Town
Mayor from May 1996 to May 1998. Serving on numerous committees including
Estimates, Grants to Voluntary Bodies, Town Hall Management, Health &
Safety - to name a few!
Since coming to Chipping Norton I have become very involved in the
community & as well as the above have been the Editor of Chipping Norton
News, Chair of Governors of Chipping Norton Nursery School and Chair of
Trustees of the ACE Centre.
I firmly believe that the town owes its very special character to the
people who live here and that their needs are worth investing in and
fighting for. As a member of the Town Council I have always tried to
ensure that the town receives the quality of services it deserves. However
with the limited powers allowed us this has often been - and continues to
be - a difficult task. In recent years we have had some success - the
Infant School site was not sold to developers and is now the ACE Centre,
at last we have an indoor swimming pool with other facilities in the
Leisure Centre - but there are other facilities needed. A
skateboard/rollerblade area for young people, perhaps a centralised
health/welfare centre, more accommodation for visitors and in view of
recent announcements more employment opportunities. If re-elected I will
continue this task by trying to gain even greater co-operation between the
Town Council and both the District & County Councils to provide the
facilities we need in Chipping Norton.
