Interested in your family of years gone by?

T
hen why not consider joining your local group who study world wide families in addition to our local area. We meet at The Ace Centre, Burford Road, Chipping Norton on the second Wednesday of each month at 7-30pm March until December.

Members of the group range from beginners to expert family historians plus three Professional Genealogists, Being a member you have access to our Archives, Library and Specialist equipment for use at home or Record Depository. As many as 240 million records are available to use at any one time. Our programme covers both study nights together with visiting guest speakers who provide the group with talks on specialised subjects. Members are kept up to date with news and events going on World Wide by an Internet newsletter.

Beginning in October 2001 the group has been taking the Family Tree Magazine for the benefit of members.. As a local organisation we do however support events and hold fund raising days within Oxfordshire as part of our programme. Members always come forward to help at these events on a regular basis. The group is also very well known for it's efforts in helping with local family history projects such as Cemetery Records and Churchyard Surveys,

Our season runs from March until December with a subscription of just
£10-00. (Family £15) Visitors are most welcome at the rate of £1 -50 per meeting.

Chipping Norton Family History Group
Our motto is to preserve the past for the future.

Peter Tyrell writes:
As part of our local community project work Christine Whetren and myself this year are concentrating on the early events that took place at the Holy Trinity Church, in London Road, Chipping Norton. Records for the church start in 1879 however the church opened it's doors back in 1836.  Whilst we have carried out a churchyard survey that is now available on both CD and Microfiche.  We would love to hear from visitors world wide who visit this site that can provide information on any of their ancestors that were Baptised, Married or Buried at this church before October 1879.

Contact can be made at p.tyrrell310@btopenworld.com or please write to Mrs Christine Whetren, 25 Finsbury Place, Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, OX7 5LS England.

FAMILY HISTORY DAY AT THE ACE CENTRE

Members of the Family History Group of Chipping Norton welcome everyone to experience what research is possible these days on the net, and to introduce their own software resources which are available - along with support and encouragement - to townspeople tracing their family histories.

From left: Peter Tyrrell giving a helping hand to Keith Cooper-Harris whose ancestors didn't help by sometimes calling themselves Cooper and sometimes Harris. Helen Brown with Jack Sussens whose rare surname stays elusive on the IGI database. Jan Cliffe explains recent work on mediaeval wills by the CN Historical Research Group to Andrew Collard. Family Tree expert Sara Collard discusses a detail with Liz Stranks.
